![]() I then purchased a light duty manual trailer winch at Wal Mart for about $15, and wire rope at Home depot, as well as two pulleys, one large and one small per tripod, and other hardware such as chain for suspending the barrel, and eye bolts and threaded rod etc. 2" was used so it would fit over the other pipe welded onto the tripod head. The tripod legs were 2" diameter 10 ft long EMT acquired at Home Depot. I then welded another piece across the top of the head as a support for the pulley through which the wire rope will pass. I cut and welded the angle iron into a triangle, and at each corner of the triangle welded 1.5 inch pipe about 6" long, and angled out about 15 degrees. I took an old iron bed frame, cut it up into 16" pieces with a cutoff wheel and used the resulting angle iron to make the "head" of the tripod. ![]() At the time they were going for about $30. I bought three Game Country feeder motors from Cabela's. I made my own for less than $100 including motor. Otherwise, the lchange of the length of days mean I am constanting resetting my feeders for dawn or dusk. I like the "solar eye" type feeders if I am running them year around. I can now hunt at night when those smart rascals are out and about. Now I have a new toy which is a solar powered red light over the feeder which comes on at dusk and off at daylight. They are in the pasture somewhere with or without the feeder and a feeder enables me to find them easier. ![]() I keep the feeders running for hog killing. ![]() We have run the same batteries for several years using the chargers. Solar panels are good investments and will help insure your feeder is running when you are not there. My favorite controls are the remington digitals. I have built some of my own, but recently purchased the boat winch type 'cause I am tired of balancing on top of ladders with sacks of corn above my head. So far, so good for the sand and the hogs. On my place in Leon Co, we welded feet (flat plats with a hole in it) fto the pipe legs, then use re-bar to stake through the holes. ![]()
